Gentlemen's Captain: Ian ClarkIan Clark was born in Southport and attended Stanley Secondary Modern, A few O‑levels, some enthusiastic schoolboy football and basketball, and an interest in golf followed. Golf for Ian began at the Southport Muni and as a junior at Southport Old Links G.C. Four days skiving school to watch the 1976 Open — and a teenage Seve — sealed his love for golf and his hero. Ian’s working life started at Otis Elevators, where he completed an electrical apprenticeship and an HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Liverpool Polytechnic before moving into engineering roles at Plessey and Marconi working on defence communications. Global travel, IT security expertise, and a BSc (Hons) Systems Thinking degree completed on the road followed. Later came a pivot to technology sales roles at IBM, Layer7, with Ian running a CA Technologies software business across EMEA as Vice President before early retirement in 2019. Retirement didn’t sit well. Ian joined Hesketh’s Green Committee and Board, spending five years as Green Director focused on the rewarding challenge of improving our wonderful links. Married to Nadine, also a member at Hesketh, for 43 years, he enjoys cycling, gigs, travel, and time with his son Ryan and partner Sarah, and wonderful grandson Rory. Ian has been a member of Hesketh G.C for 21 years and is immensely proud to be afforded the privilege of becoming Gentleman’s Captain for 2026. He is very much looking forward to engaging with all sections of the club socially and on the links and representing Hesketh G.C throughout his year of captaincy. Juniors' Captain: Andrew WilsonMy name is Andrew Wilson and I am honoured to be the Junior Captain at Hesketh Golf Club. I have been playing golf for around six years and currently play off a handicap of 5.8. During that time I have really enjoyed developing my game and representing the club in competitions. I particularly enjoy playing for Hesketh in Southport & District Golf Association (SDGA) events and competing alongside other members of the club. Being able to represent Hesketh in these competitions is something I am very proud of. As Junior Captain, I am looking forward to supporting the Junior Organiser and helping to encourage more young golfers to get involved with the game. I hope to play my part in continuing to develop the junior section at the club and making it an enjoyable place for young players to learn, compete and make friends. I am very proud to represent the junior members of Hesketh Golf Club and look forward to the season ahead. A list of all our previous Juniors' Captains is available - Please click here |
