Introduction

We as a team aspire to reach our goals so that we are able to provide a course that not only are we proud of but one where members and visitors alike will enjoy playing.

Within our team we have a combined service to Hesketh of nearly 70 years.

Our mantra is to provide a course that is testing but above all enjoyable to all standards of player.

If you see any of the team on the course please feel free to stop and say hello.

The Team

Peter McVicar

In 1990 I began my greenkeeping career at Yelverton GC in Devon, where I rose to Deputy Head. In 1996 I returned to Scotland to become Deputy at Machrihanish and in 1997 I became Course Manager. I left Machrihanish in the Summer of 2007 to take up the position of Course Manager here at Hesketh.

Just a few of my highlights whilst at Hesketh have been R&A’s Junior Open and British Amateur and being invited by the GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America) to talk about British Greenkeeping in 5 different venues in NW USA.

Away from work I love spending time with my family including my 2 dogs, watching football and being the best Christian I can be.

David Williams

I started life here at Hesketh golf club at the age of 16 in June 2006. I finished my final exam on the Friday and started on the Monday and haven’t looked back since. I started as an apprentice and over the years I’m proud to have become First assistant.

I have completed my level 2 and level 3 in Sports Turf Diplomas and throughout my time here have gained certificates in a wide range of skills, but my favourite of all is my excavator licence. I’m at my happiest when Peter sends me out with my little JCB digger.

I’m massively family orientated and love nothing more than spending time with my close friends and family.

I got married to Laura in July 2018 and had the honour of having my reception right here at Hesketh. After which I have gone on to buy my first house and our first little dog, Bruce.

I owe a lot to the Hesketh and I am very proud to work her.

Ken Critchley

I started work at Hesketh in April 1990 this brings me to completing 30yrs service in April 2020 a milestone I’m proud of.

Starting as an assistant working up to my previous position of Deputy Course Manager, and now Irrigation Technician.

My qualifications are, City and Guilds Level 2+3 plus several more I’ve achieved during the years.

Out of work, most of my time is spent with my young grand daughter.

Alex Holland Starling

I am 23 years old and joined the team in may 2021, prior to this I was a self employed Gardner and tree surgeon. I love my job and being part of a brilliant team I have a deep passion in green keeping and arboriculture. I spend all my time outside of work with my lovely fiancé Hannah planning our future together and escaping on weekend getaways across the brilliant English country side.

Lewis Wilson

I joined the team back in November 2020 and have never felt out of place. I am no stranger to working outside as my family are mostly farmers and I have been helping them since the day I was born. I am a fan of formula drift and formula 1. I am just starting to play golf to help me see where we can and will always be taking strides in the right direction.
